Heading out East - Part 1

On Wednesday, after arriving back home from Wildwood, we packed the RV already for our trip east to Ontario. Dad and Mum came along and we planned our trip to take 9 days. Our ultimate reason for heading east was because my brother was getting married! Yay, we were all very excited for him (them!).

On Thursday morning, we got up early and left here at 4:30am. We headed down the I5 and in Seattle turned left onto the I90. We virtually followed this highway all the way till just after Chicago.

The seating options in the RV were great! The girls loved playing with their dolls, listening to Oma read them stories or doing craft activities!

And here's the driver! Steve drove the whole way. Over 3000 miles.

View of the bridge over the Columbia River. We are standing at the Wild Horses lookout/monument.

It was pretty hot that day.

We stopped at Coeur D Alene. They had a water park so while Steve had a little nap, we took the girls and let them play and cool off. They had a great time!

We then headed on and stopped at Walmart in Smelterville.

Here we are having pre-dinner drinks! We had a good little spot in the carpark. We were right in the back corner with our own little patch of grass! We slept well that first night!

The next day we woke up early (6ish) and headed off. Our plan was to arrive at Yellowstone that afternoon.

A sunny face to farewell us as we left Smelterville.

Now entering Montana.

We were intrigued by hundreds of dead trees in a lake. It was called Quake lake. We found out it was caused by the earthquake, which caused tonnes of earth and trees to come down the mountain. It happened in the 1959 and was a popular camping spot. Over 50 people were killed and many were never found (presumed buried). It redirected the river, and turned it into a lake and one of the effects was the water. The trees were originally part of the forest edge but were now drowned/dead due to the rising water.

Around 5-6pm we arrived at Yellowstone. One the way to our campsite we spotted elk and some geysers.

On Saturday we went and checked out some mud volcanoes, fumeroles and of course, the Old Faithful. We also saw some wildlife including buffalo.

Amazing blue clear water. It was very hot water because of the live volcano underground.

The girls were very excited to see a chipmunk!

Dad and Mum were the kitchen staff making lunches while we were driving!

The good Old Faithful! Called so because she faithfully spouts forth every 40-90 minutes.

The grand canyon waterfall

The bison (buffalo) grazing along the road side.

At one point along the way, there was just masses of rock on either side of the road.

On Monday morning we left just as the sun was coming up. Beautiful sun rise!

From Yellowstone we headed off to Rushmore. However that will be the next post!

We were awed by the beauty we had seen in the past few days. We loved seeing the wildlife, the waterfalls, the different effects of the underground volcano: it all pointed to our wonderful Creator.

Thanks for looking.
