Leaving Sydney and arriving in Hawaii

We left Sydney on Thursday night (25/7). Stefan wasn't feeling well at all and Taleesha just kept sleeping in the pram, warm with fever. After checking in our luggage, we headed to the lounge along with our carry-on. Not realising that bottles and liquids had to be 100ml or less, we lost deos, shampoos and even half empty tubes of toothpaste. And then they even missed some! My deo got taken but Jaclyn, who had exactly the same one, got to keep hers!

We finally boarded the plane and found our seats. We were in the middle rows, 4 across and the two older kids just in front of us. About one hour after take-off Stefan threw up. However, what's more is that he involuntary hyperventilates (he did this as a kid but hasn't for ages) and crampes up all his muscles. I remembered to place a bag over his face so that he breathes in carbon dioxide and not oxygen as that's what causes the cramping. Two nurses were on board and they helped with giving oxygen after he had settled down. This happened one more time during the flight. We requested medical help on arrival so as soon as the plane stopped Stefan and me were the first off the plane to get assessed by a medic. Three security guys two medics and two Hawaiian staff hoffered around asking for name, addresses, DOB, passport number etc etc. Anyway he was assessed and we could go to customs with stef in a wheelchair. While heading there he started doing it again. This time was the worst I've seen. He was totally cramping his face his ribs and could hardly breathe. Eventually the Ambulance came and he calmed down again with the bag over his face. We ended up in Kuakini hospital just to be sure that it was the flu and that he wouldn't do it when we could be out in the round or far away from medical help. While there, he had blood tests, X-rays and intravenous fluids.
The patient!
After sitting around for 3-4 hours, Stefan was given the okay to be discharged. The hospital staff called a cab and we headed for our hotel.

The girls slept most of the flight and Taleesha slept through the landing right until Steve picked her up to disembark. I didn't sleep at all in between adjusting the girls on either side of me and attending to Stefan the whole flight. I was very tired waiting in the hospital and could easily have climbed in next to Stefan and gone to sleep!

The two girls taking over my seat while I was attending to Stefan!

In a way, Stefan's illness was a blessing in disguise. We didn't have to get our our luggage scanned or checked, they just got Steve and the girls out of there! We had organised a shuttle bus to pick us up from the airport prior to leaving Australia, so Steve got to the hotel with all the baggage and the girls. They headed to the shops for some supplies and were in the pool when we got there!

It was quite warm, approx 30 degrees. Our first impressions were a bit of Bali/Indonesia with 1970 buildings.
